Inspector David Doel, the high-ranking
Hamilton cop who has raked in more than $500,000 while suspended with
pay, is expected to announce his retirement today, The Spectator has
learned.

David Doel
He is 10 months shy of his full pension
eligibility date. And almost all of his best five years of service, upon
which his pension is calculated, will actually have occurred while he
has been suspended with pay.
Doel's announcement should end, once and for all, a four-year milking of the police disciplinary system that has allowed him — with assistance from his lawyer Harry Black
— to stall and delay his hearing.
While under suspension he has
continued to be paid well over $100,000 each year while continuing to
accrue vacation time and sick days and receive pay raises.
